Bridge Replacement Project Part of $17 Million Safety Improvement Project in Area Around Exit 43 (Manchester – Route 21)

State Route 21 Bridge Over NYS Thruway in Manchester Will Be Shut Down to Traffic While Project is Completed

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the replacement of the State Route 21 Bridge over the NYS Thruway in Ontario County will begin Wednesday, August 1, 2018. The bridge replacement is part of a $17 million safety improvement project in the area of exit 43 (Manchester – Route 21) which also includes the replacement of the exit 43 ramp bridge, culvert repair, and pavement rehabilitation.

Originally built in 1952, the State Route 21 Bridge carries approximately 9,000 vehicles per day over the Thruway (I-90) in the Town of Manchester. The bridge will be replaced with a two span, 236-foot long bridge that will have an anticipated lifespan of at least 75 years. The new bridge will feature safety improvements, including increased height clearance for vehicular traffic on I-90, wider travel lanes, improved approach pavement and increased shoulder widths along Route 21.

To accommodate the bridge replacement, the bridge is scheduled to be closed to all traffic during construction through the middle of November. During the scheduled closure, all passenger vehicles will be detoured via Outlet Road – County Road 7 – and State Route 31. Trucks will be detoured via State Route 96 – County Road 7 – and State Route 31.

Variable Message Signs are already illuminated and will advise motorists of the bridge closure and detours. The work and closure is weather dependent and subject to change.
For up-to-date travel information, motorists are encouraged to download its mobile app which is available to download for free on iPhone and Android devices. The app provides motorists direct access to real-time traffic and navigation assistance while on the go. Travelers can also visit the Thruway Authority’s interactive Traveler Map.

Motorists can also sign up for TRANSalert e-mails, which provide the latest traffic conditions along the Thruway, here. Route 31F Bridge Over Thomas Creek In Perinton

Bridge to Close July 16th; Project to Complete Later This Fall

The bridge will be closed to traffic starting on July 16 through the end of August, to complete work more quickly and efficiently. Traffic will be detoured using Route 250, Route 31 and Canandaigua Road to access Route 31F. The project is expected to be completed this fall.

New DEC Odor Log

Here is a link to an "Odor Log" form provided by the NYS DEC. Their accompanying explanation:

The form is designed to assist residents who in the future feel impacted by odors from the High Acres facility in documenting their concerns and providing that information to WM and DEC. The form seeks the same type of information that DEC staff in the field has been seeking from residents who have taken advantage of the opportunity to use the Hotline.   

We are providing the form at this time for a couple of reasons. Most significantly, impacts from the facility have been reduced as a result of the mitigative measures taken by WM under the direction of DEC. Calls to the hotline have decreased to just a few in recent weeks, and we have received only two in the month of June thus far. The geographic extent of any remaining issue has clearly been reduced to areas in very close proximity to the facility. Based on the current situation, DEC is reducing the extended staff coverage in the neighborhoods which we initiated to assess and respond to residents’ complaints, while maintaining active oversight and a response process for complaints. Please be assured that DEC will continue to monitor the situation closely, and has continued access to the hotline calls as well as reviewing any forms that are submitted. Use of the form will provide us with the basic information regarding an odor event in place of a DEC staff visit to an affected resident. In addition, some residents have expressed the view that waiting for a DEC representative to arrive is inconvenient or not possible (people heading to work, etc.). Use of this form will allow the information to be sent electronically, and can be submitted at any time, so there is no constraint imposed by DEC’s normal business hours or a resident’s schedule. We encourage continued use of the Hotline by residents as a first notification as calls to it will be recorded, and will give WM notice that there is a concern in the neighborhood, providing them with an immediate chance to evaluate and rectify any issue they may be having.

While we are pleased to see the reduction in calls to the Hotline, we are cognizant that concerns increased on a couple of days since mid - May, and we therefore want to be sure the residents have a mechanism, in addition to the Hotline, to provide accurate and useful information to us should they experience a future issue at their home or place of business. The information sought is the same as we would seek in any situation where a neighborhood feels adversely impacted by a business, and to my understanding is the same approach used by most regulatory agencies with similar responsibilities.

State officials have closed the popular Bluff Trail at Chimney Bluffs State Park in Wayne County due to erosion on the jagged mud cliffs. Closure signs are posted at trail heads within the park.

Three other trails (Drumlin, Garner Point and East-West) remain open.

Walworth Fire District No. 1 - Monthly and Open Meeting Schedule

   NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the regular monthly meetings of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Walworth Fire District No. 1 for the 2018 calendar year will take place on the second Thursday of each month. The only exceptions being that the monthly business meetings in July and December will be held on the third Thursday, July 19, 2018 and December 20, 2018, respectively. All such meetings will take place at the Walworth Fire Hall located at 2178 Church Street, Walworth and will commence at 7:00 p.m.
   NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Walworth Fire District No. 1 will be holding an additional open meeting on the fourth Thursday of each month for the 2018 calendar year.
