Hogweed
(exp. 2016-08-31)

Hogweed is the #1 on the terrestrial invasive list for a public safety concern in NYS because of the long lasting burns and scaring it can cause for years to come after the initial exposure. There are many ways that it can be spread:
1. By Bird or Wildlife,
2. By propagation through seed pods, fragmentation and root structure,
3. And by mowing.

Here is the link for digital distribution to residents that call in and suspect that they may have a plant on their property. There are two different ways of contacting the team.

Residents can report it to the NYSDEC Giant Hogweed Team and the team will flag the location for control.

Here is a great opportunity
to engage students.

As an American Red Cross blood drive coordinator, you make a difference by helping ensure a safe blood supply for hospital patients. You can make an even bigger impact by recruiting high school and college students to join us in our mission to help save lives!

Encourage students you know to check out the Leaders Save Lives program and sign up to host a summer blood drive. Students will work hand-in-hand with the Red Cross to recruit donors to make appointments to give blood. In return, students may become eligible to win a scholarship and earn a gift card. High school students can also earn rewards for the High School Leadership Program.

To become eligible, students must:
•     Be currently enrolled in high school or college.
•     Coordinate a Red Cross blood drive between June 1 – Aug. 31, 2016.
•     Collect at least 25 pints of blood.

Thanks for being a Red Cross blood drive coordinator! We couldn't meet our mission without you.

Your American Red Cross
